This collection documents the family of James McGill Buchanan (1919- ), MTSU alumnus and 1986 winner of the Nobel Prize for Economics. His family has deep roots in Rutherford County and Middle Tennessee. His grandfather was John Price Buchanan, Governor of Tennessee from 1891 through 1893. Mr. Buchanan earned his B.S. at Middle Tennessee State Teachers College in 1940, followed by his M.A. in Economics at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and his Ph.D. at the University of Chicago in 1948. The collection honors an outstanding Tennessean, his academic career, and his family.
