Abstract | This preservation study of the East End and Lockeland Springs neighborhoods of east Nashville is designed to analyze the historical evolution of the two neighborhoods, identify their significant architecture, and provide information useful to the preservation of these two neighborhoods. The East End and Lockeland Springs areas are typical of the development and decline of inner city neighborhoods throughout America. Presently these two neighborhoods are classified as low-income areas and the majority of the Victorian era housing stock has deteriorated somewhat. There is a large number of rental units in the two neighborhoods, and the maintenance of many of these rental properties is questionable. In recent years, however, many homes have been bought and are being restored as part of the new interest being given to many of Nashville's older areas.
