;Jfl''< The Center for Historic Preservation ~~-~i Box 80 • Middle Tennessee State University • Murfreesboro, Tennessee 37132 April 20, 1993 Tommie Goodwin Mayor, City of Trenton 309 College Street Trenton, TN 38382 Dear Mayor Goodwin, Dr. Huhta passed on to me your request for the preparation of a National Register of Historic Places nomination for the Freed House in Trenton. I direct the Center's activities in the recordation and nomination of historic properties throughout Tennessee and your enclosed material was very helpful and interesting. I have visited Trenton twice in the recent past and found that your city has a delightful mix of historic architecture. Certainly the Freed House appears to make an important contribution to the town's history and architecture. In fact, we have decided that this property has such merit that I will play the lead role in preparing the nomination rather than assigning it as a student project. Therefore, I would like to suggest the following work schedule for your consideration: 1) 1 pm, May 24 (Monday): arrive in Trenton; meet at city hall That afternoon I can visit the house and do the necessary photography and measurements 2) May 25 (Tuesday): finish any necessary work at the house; research at local library 3) late September: draft National Register nomination submitted to the Tennessee Historical Commission 4) third week in January, 1994: State Historic Review Board meets (probably in Nashville) to nomination of the house. Preservation consider the To prepare the nomination, the required photographs, and maps, the Center charges a nominal processing fee of $250 to $300 to defray our costs and expenses. To keep expenses down, we would prefer if the city could donate the night's lodging necessary for May 24 by making arrangements with a local bed and breakfast or motel. If you cannot, please let me know and I will make alternate arrangements. You will not be billed the processing fee until the nomination is submitted to the Tennessee Historical Commission.
