HISTORICAL SKETCH OF THE MOUNT ARARAT BAPTIST CHURCH The history of a church enables us to keep alive its yesterday, opens the gates of its today, to en-rich its tomorrow. · . . This Seventy-Fifth Anr.iversary Celebratton 1s the culmination of a dream borne in 1914. Mount Ararat, at its inception, began as a small wood~n church on the corner of Eighteenth Street and Ftrst Avenue, Sherman Heights, with Rev. Williams as Pastor in 1916. In 1955 the church was bricked and the educational division was added under the leadership of the late Rev. J. H. Glover. Rev. Geo~ge Cook became our pastor in 1973. Under his leadership the church, pastor's study, and clerk and.secretary offices were mo?ernized ... The church has had seven pastors. Rev. Wtlltams served from 1914 until 1928. In 1929, Rev. Ramsey accepted the task and served until 1933. Rev. ~- C. Clency became our pastor in 1934 and served unttl . 1935. Rev. J. H. Glover was called to take the retns in 1936. He served until 1973. God heard and answered the prayers of many when he sent Rev. Cook in 1973. He served until October, 1986. In October f 1986 Mount Ararat was again faced with the 0 ' . h 1 challenge of finding another leader. Rev. Mtc ae Jordan became our pastor in November of 1987 and served unt it December, 1988. The Lord has blessed us with our present pastor, Rev. Albert W. Bry, Sr., and very thankfvl for him. FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK: Congratulations on this the Church's Seventy-sixth Anniversary. I'd like to tak,/18 7 ~ thIs tIme to comment you on yet another year- ·- of working together through worshipping, pralslrg and serving the True and Living God. The past year has been very chal lenglng, extremely rewarding and truely fullfllllng. It has also been a year of setting goals and striving toward those goals. However, we cannot standstl II with our past achievements. As we move Into another year, let us keep our eyes on Christ, the Author and Finisher of our faith. Now, as your pastor, I also take this opportunity to share visions, dreams and Ideas that God has given to me for this CHURCH: VISIONS OF-- building up the Church of God through teaching, preaching, praying and witnessing; DREAMS OF-- evangelizing---winning souls to Christ by preaching His Gospel; DREAMS THAT-- Mt. Ararat, as a body of bel levers wl II move out In faith to reach, touch and address the problems that are destroying our society: DRUGS, TEENAGE PREGNANCY, AND GANG WARS. I challenge rou, Mt. Ararat, to become a partner and servant of God with me by sharing your time, your talent and your tithes to continue the work of Christ . . "I (we) can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Us)". Phil 4:13 ... May this Seventy-sixth Annlversay Celebration bring the vision, dreams and goals Into reality.
