[Douglas
received
a
letter
from
Cravath
,
who
decided
not to
send
teachers
back
to
Smyrna
that
year
.
Douglas
opposed
this,
knowing
that would have been
“a
great
disappointment
to”
Smyrna’s
African
American
community
.
Douglas
was
worried
for them and
said
he will not
look
for
alternative
work
until
he
tried
everything
he
could
to
return
to
Smyrna

recalled
a

letter

Mr

State

;
Douglas
asked
Burt
if that was a
real
possibility
for the
schools
in
Smyrna
.
Douglas
also
inquired
if
transportation
would be
provided
for
teachers
.
Douglas
commented
that
Mr

did
not
