numerous
petty
outrages
on the
Freedmen
during
the
month
and a
few
of
greater
magnitude
.
Henry
Hix
, a
drinking
,
worthless
,
reckless
rebel
has
made
a
practice
of
disarming
colored
men
when
meeting
them..
. On
Saturday
23rd
inst
Dr
.
James
G
.
Jordan
of this
county
knocked
down
with a
chair
wife
of
Jerry
Delbridge
col'd
for
getting
his
breakfast
too
early..
. The "
Ku
Klux
Klan
" have
effected
our
organization
in
Rutherford
and
Cannon
Counties
but as
yet
have
perpetrated
no
outrages
that
I
have
head
of
under
covers
of their
masks..
. A
public
meeting
was
held
today
in
Murfreesboro
by the
Republican
candidates
for
County
Offices
.
Speeches
made
by
Senator
Elliot
and
Rep
.
Bosson
to
audience
of
perhaps
one
thousand
mostly
colored
people
,
seventy-five
or
one
hundred
rebels
were
present
for the
purpose
as was
evident
from the
beginning
of
breaking
up
the
meeting..
. "
