Excerpt from record
I
have the
honor
to
Submit
the
following
report
for the

.
I

of

during

everything
passed
along
smoothly
as
far
as
I
have been
able
to
learn
,
no
outrages
or
acts
of
injustice
of any
kind
have been
reported
to

Since

I
have been
called
on a

;
during

Justice
in this
Town
.
I
was
present
at the
trial
; the
case
was this. a

employed
a
colored

and her
children
, they
worked
six
months
,
having
each
net
$75.00
, she
claimed
$28
.
00
as
still
due
her. the
white
man
refused
to
pay
the
amount
claiming
that she had
violated
her
contract
: She
obtained
a
judgement
for
$20
.
00
, this
deduction
was
made
on
account
of
one
of the
boys
failing
to
do
good
work
, as was
proven
. and the
mother
refused
to
make
her
son
do
such
work
as
required
by her
employer
. The
freedmen
are
all
employed
at this
time
in
picking
cotton
at
good
wages
:
I
think
there are but
few
if any
idle
.
