"The Criminal Court of Rutherford Co. is now in session ad the case of the col'd soldier Albert Ellis, Company F of the 111th United States Colored Troops (USCT) charged with being an accomplice in the murder of a little white boy, Henry Lovelady (aged about 8 years) on or about the 6th day of March, 1866. The jury found him guilty of "Involuntary Manslaughter" and sentenced him to the Penitentiary for five years. The finding was in accordance with the facts but the sentence severe in the extreme." |
