This
report
details
the
Bureau’s
operations
in
Rutherford
County
during
the
month
of
June
1866
. In
it
is
listed
the
number
of
labor
contracts
arranged
between
employers
and
employees
,
most
likely
freedmen
, and the
average
monthly
wage
of
each
labor
contract
. The
report
also
lists
the
number
of
legal
counsels
it
pursued
for the
month
of
June
;
which
was
minimal
. The
report
also
reports
on the
relations
between
local
,
non-bureau
authorities
and the
freedmen
. The
report
closes
by
noting
that there
is
an
African
American
subscription
school
operating
in
Rutherford
County
. The
report
notes
that the
subscription
school
is
operated
by
two
African
American
teachers
and that the
school
has an
attendance
of
67
students
. The
report
also
claims
that a
white
,
discharged
“federal”
soldier
was
attempting
to
open
a
school
but was
trying
to
find
a
building
for his
school
at the
time
that the
report
was
written
.
