Dear
Sir
:
Yours
of the
29th
is
at
hand
.
I
was
anxious
to
secure
to the
colored
people
in
Lebanon
something
for the
use
of their
house
this
year
to
enable
them to
complete
the
payment
for
it
as
I
fear
it
will be
very
difficult
for them to
do
that
without
further
assistance
, and
I
know
of
no
place
where
I
can
secure
anymore
.
I
have
paid
$800
from
Ch
.
Ex
.
So
. on
it
and they
undertook
to
raise
$700
themselves
which
is
a
pretty
heavy
load
them
under
the
circumstances
. As
soon
as the
property
is
paid
for
it
will be
deed
to them for
schools
etc. If the
Bureau
can
do
it
I
believe
General
Corlin
would
feel
that
it
is
better
to
pay
something
in the
way
of
rent
than for the
people
there to
incur
the
risk
of
losing
the
property
and what has been
paid
on
it
. If that
can
not be
done
the
Bureau
can
have the
building
free
of
rent
this
year
for the
sake
of
having
a
school
there that will
benefit
all
the
colored
people
.
Mr
.
Sharp
is
not
teaching
in the
building
by any
authority
of
mine
.
I
suppose
he has
no
authority
from
anyone
, as he
is
not
employed
by
Dr
.
Rust
or the
society
he
represents
. If he has
received
any
permission
to
occupy
the
building
for any
part
of this
year
it
must
be from
some
Agt
. of the
Bureau
, the
building
being
leased
to them they
alone
could
give
permission.Your
Agt
. of
L
.
I
presume
will
find
no
difficulty
in
giving
permission
to
your
teacher
,
so
he has or should have a
copy
of the
lease
and
when
that
expires
this
gives
you
authority
over
the
property
.
I
will
renew
the
deed
if
you
wish
.
Wish
sincere
respect
to
yours
