assaults

African
Americans
in the
area
.
Nelson
concludes
his
report
by
discussing
a
political
rally
that
turned
into a
riot
.
Nelson
attributes
the
cause
of the
riot
to
“Rebels”
.
Nelson
notes
many
African
Americans
were
present
at the
rally
.
Nelson
reports
that a
“rebel”
fired
a
pistol
at an
African
American
,
finally
incited
the
riot
after
several
incidents
over
the
course
of the
day
.
Nelson
notes
most
of the
African
Americans
were
unarmed
However
, they
fought
back
by
throwing
bricks
and
rocks
,
driving
the
instigators
of the
riot
from the
area
.
