.
Nelson’s
report
for
May
1868
is
extensive
. In
it
he
discusses
school
attendance
in the
county
,
noting
that
it
is
low
because
of
planting
season
.

.

remarks
on
Ku
Klux
Klan
activity
in
Murfreesboro
,
Tennessee
in
Rutherford
County
.
Based
on his

estimates
Rutherford

Klan
membership

.
Nelson
closes
his
report
with,
which
was by
1868
a
familiar
topic
;
bounty
claims
.
It
appears
that
many
ex
African
American
soldiers
were not
getting
their
bounties
, and were
having
a
difficult
time
do
so
.
Nelson
remarks
that a
fraudulent
bounty
claims
agent
had been in
Murfreesboro
for
about
two
weeks
conducting

.
