It
covers
quantitative
information
regarding
number
,
condition
, and
value
of
school
buildings
as
well
as that of
teacher
and
pupil
demographics
. The
questionnaire
concludes
with
inquiries
concerning
public
sentiment
toward
the
Freedmen's
Bureau.]

to
George
E
.
Judd’s
responses
there were
27
Freedmen’s
Schools
. This
included
17
day
schools
,
one
night
school
, and
nine
conducted
on the
Sabbath
. The
schools
were
located
in the
following
communities
:
Murfreesboro
,
Tullahoma
,
Shelbyville
,
Bedford
County
,
McMinnville
, and
Franklin
County
. There were
22
teachers
,
22
white
and
9
‘colored.’
The
average
value
of the
schools
was
$500
.
Nearly
100
individuals
attended
per
school
.
According
to the
questionnaire
there was a
need
for
so
many
additional
‘colored’
schools
that the
Freedmen’s
Bureau
and the
government
could
not
produce
and
fund
them.
Judd
perceived
improving
sentiment
toward
the
Freedmen’s
Bureau
.
According
to
Judd
, there was
nothing
further
the
Bureau
could
do
for
educating
white
‘refugee’
children.]
