Historical Notes
The
Lynchburg
Historic
District
is
comprised
of
eighty-two
properties
which
make
up
the
central
part
of the
community
,
located
in
Moore
County
,
TN
.
Lynchburg
was
designated
as the
county
seat
of the
newly
established
Moore
County
in
1871
.
It
is
also the
commercial
and
industrial
center
for the
county
. The
area
contains
buildings
that
represent
the
development
of
Lynchburg
from a
crossroads
community
into the
political
and
commercial
center
of
Moore
County
. The
integrity
of the
district
is
evident
not
only
in the
historic
buildings
, but in the
layout
of the
town
,
which
reflects
the
impact
of the
county
seat
designation
. The
focus
of the
historic
district
is
a
downtown
core
which
surrounds
the
courthouse
block
and
is
known
as the
Public
Square
.
