Historical note |
Albert Sidney Johnston (1803-1862), a graduate of West Point who was there at the same time as Jefferson Davis, was a veteran of the War with Mexico and one of the most experienced of the Confederate generals. He was the highest ranking officer to die in the Battle of Shiloh on 6 April 1862. His close associate, Tennessee Governor Isham Harris,served on Johnston's staff. |
