Parcel numbers 15, 16, and 17 on the Stones River National Military Park Commission Map, 1929. This land was sold to George Avent, the father of Andy Avent, Mariah Slaughter, and Patsey Howard (wife of Ed Howard). This deed discusses the intent to sell one acre of the tract to George Hutchinson. |

"For an in consideration of the sum of Seventy-five Dollars to me in hand paid, I, H. H. Kerr have bargained and sold, and by these presents do transfer and convey unto andy Avent, Mariah Slaughter and Patsey Howard, their heirs and assigns, a certain tract or parcel of land in Rutherford County, State f Tennessee, as follows, lying and being in the 9th Civil District of said County and bounded on the North by a lot belonging to John Wade (col), On the East by a lot, belonging to Ed Howard, or H. H. Kerr, on the South by a lane and on the West by Patsey Howard containing about three acres more or less, and being the same tract of land, less one acre, which has been brought and paid for by Geo. Hutchinson, I agreed to sell to Geo. Avent (col.) in his lifetime and upon which said Geo. Avent paid me in his lifetime about the sum of fifty Dollars and the balance has now been paid me in full by the heirs of said Geo. Avent (col.), who died in the year 1898. And said land is now deeded to them, each of whom have one third undivided interest in the same. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land, with the appurtenances, estate, title and interest there to belonging, to the said Andy Avent (col.), Mariah Slaughter (col.), and Patsey Howard (col.) children of said Geo. Avent (col.) as aforesaid and their heirs and assigns forever, And I, the said H. H. Kerr do covenant with the said Andy Avent (col.), Mariah Slaughter (col.), and Patsey Howard (col.), that I am lawfully seized and possessed of said land in fee simple, have a good right to convey it, and the same in unincumbered, And I, the said H. H. Kerr, do further covenant and bind myself, my heirs and representatives to warrant and forever defend the title to said land to the said Andy Avent (col.), Mariah Slaughter (col.), and Patsey Howard (col.) their heirs and assigns against the lawful claims of all persons whomsoever, witness my hand, this 3rd Day of April, 1901." |
