Description |
The pamphlets in this collection date from the late 1600s to the late 1800s and include contemporary accounts of trials in the United States and Great Britain. These pamphlets were produced soon after trials and sold to a mass audience. Note that records for these pamphlets do not include subject headings; keyword searches for such terms as "divorce" "rape" "wife" and "woman" retrieve numerous records. A small sample of relevant titles in the collection follows: Trial of Charles Wakely, for a rape on Mrs. Rebecca Fay, wife to Dr. Cyrus Fay, physician (1810); The Confession of Mary Cole, who was executed... for the murder of Agnes Teaurs, her mother (1813); Kentucky jurisprudence : a history of the trial of Miss Delia A. Webster, at Lexington, Kentucky, Dec'r 17-21, 1844, before the Hon. Richard Buckner; On a charge of aiding slaves to escape from that Commonwealth -with miscellaneous remarks including her views on American slavery / written by herself (1845); The Forrest divorce case (1852); Trial of Madame Restell, alias Ann Lohman for abortion and causing the death of Mrs. Purdy (1841); The truly remarkable life of the beautiful Helen Jewett, who was so mysteriously murdered (1878); The O'Shea-Parnell divorce case (1890-1899); and The Fall River tragedy. A history of the Borden murders (1893). |
