Description |
Mary Pickford (1892-1979) established herself as a silent film star in the 1910s. She received an Academy Award for best actress in her first talking film, "Coquette" (1928). Pickford, along with with Douglas Fairbanks, Charles Chaplin, and D. W. Griffith, launched United Artists in 1919. This collection of more than 100 photographs includes numerous highlights: portraits of Pickford as a child and young actress; still shots of scenes from Coquette, Little Lord Fauntleroy, and other films; and images of Pickford making special appearances (e.g., "Mary Pickford visiting Children's Hospital, Los Angeles, California, 1922"). |
